Hello!

Welcome to Dysconnect. I hope you will find the information here very helpful.

After many years of being called lazy by teachers, and bullied by the other kids I was eventually diagnosed with Dyspraxia at the age of 19. Recieving a diagnoses felt light a gigantic weight had been lifted off my shoulders as I finally had answers to what the “thing” was that had been antagonising me all my life. Later I began to realise that having Dyspraxia wasn’t a bad thing as I began to acknowledge my main strenghts. I am very creative, and passionate about helping others.

This website was created to help people with Dyspraxia especially those that were diagnosed late. I want to make sure that no one else struggles like I did.

I want to create a world where people don’t have to look far to get help and have everything they need on one platform

If you ever need a hand or have ay questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Daniel Taylor

    Hello Daniel,
I want to tell you about our project ‘Dys is Me’ – I think you will be interested, and we would love any support you can give us.

“Dys is Me” – A Groundbreaking Short Film Exploring the Sensory World of Dyspraxia

Dys is Me aims to provide an immersive and deeply personal experience of living with dyspraxia. Led by award-winning writer-director Stacha Hicks, the film explores the challenges faced by those with the condition through a unique, sensory-driven narrative that puts viewers directly in the shoes of a dyspraxic person.

With an exciting team of industry professionals behind the camera, including Director of Photography Neal Parsons (The Silent Child), Costume Designer Jacky Levy (Ted Lasso), and Art Director Rachel Denning (Robin and the Hoods), Dys is Me sets out to do more than simply explain dyspraxia – it seeks to feel it. The film transports audiences through surreal worlds, from the chaotic and slapstick universe of Charlie Chaplin to the high-octane energy of kung fu masters and digital motion capture environments, all while exploring the intense, often overwhelming sensory experience of navigating the world as a dyspraxic person.

“Dys is Me is not a documentary – it’s a journey,” said Hicks. “We’re creating a sensory experience that will challenge how people perceive the world, helping them understand what it’s like to live with this condition. We want to foster empathy, break down biases, and ultimately bring the dyspraxic community into focus.”

The film’s cast features two talented young actors, Alexandra Thomas and Charlie Cuscito, who have bravely shared their personal experiences with dyspraxia to ensure the story’s authenticity and emotional depth.

This project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Royal Society, which has supported the team in bringing Dys is Me to life. Principal photography took place over three days during the Christmas period, with the crew working at minimal pay or pro bono due to their passion for the project’s important message.

“We want to share this story far and wide,” said producer Darren Tunstall. “Dyspraxia affects 1 in 20 people, yet it remains largely misunderstood. With your support, we can ensure that Dys is Me gets the visibility it deserves, reaching both audiences who relate to the experience and those who may be encountering it for the first time.”

The team is aiming to submit the film to major film festivals across the UK and internationally. Director Stacha Hicks’ previous short film, Elicit, qualified for both BAFTA and BIFA garnering attention and accolades at Aesthetica, The New Film Festival and the BAFTA-endorsed Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, and the team hopes to build on that success with Dys is Me.
